The video game player can move about freely and have fun while enjoying the game. While many teachers find that learning about these specific environmental issues may be helpful, many teachers are not given enough resources to address these issues. The internet provides the teachers with a forum to explore these issues, though it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what needs to be done, and where.Teachers may use the research method of looking for general information and using an online search engine to look for specific types of information on any given topic. For example, if a teacher wants to learn more about global warming, they may type in the keyword phrase 'global warming' on the search engine. The results will show the different articles on the subject. If the teacher is interested in a particular article, the teacher's website may be a good source of additional information. The teacher may also visit various other websites of professors, scientists, etc.The internet also provides another avenue for scientific research. Because it is easier for teachers to access many of the resources available for free, teachers are able to discover this information for themselves. For example, a teacher in a geographic area might want to look up the global warming in regards to his or her area. Afterward, the teacher may want to fin d out whether or not global warming is a problem that affects his or her area. Thus, it is very possible to locate local environmental issues online. As teachers seek to learn more about particular environmental issues, they may become more aware of how their schools are being affected by these issues. Even though the online approach provides a venue for teachers to learn more about these issues, it may take time for teachers to find the information they need. Therefore, as teachers search for answers, they will want to investigate the online venue.

Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart - 950 Words
Two United Souls Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, tells the story of a warrior, Okonkwo, who watches as European missionaries slowly tear apart the culture of his village. This story takes place in pre-colonial Nigeria, where Umuofia is divided among nine villages. Okonkwo, the main character, and Obierika are best friends, even though they are polar opposites. Although these two individuals have different personalities and attributes, their culture, beliefs, and traditions are what ultimately brought them together. Even though Okonkwo and Obierika had very different personalities, this brought them together rather than dragging them apart. The two men liked having someone to talk to about their problems, and it gave them great comfort to know that someone would always have their back. Okonkwo was not afraid to hurt people and had a very firm hand. Rather than speaking a great deal, Okonkwo expressed himself with his actions. He aided in killing his adopted son, Ikemefuna, after the Oracle had sentenced Ikemefuna to death because of an act of murder that Ikemefunaââ¬â¢s biological father had comitted. (Achebe 61) Okonkwo did this because he ââ¬Å"was afraid of being thought weak.â⬠(Achebe 61) This goes to show that Okonkwo did not want anyone to look down on him or think that he was a coward. The slight drop of . 03% was a result of theà Oakwood mutiny, the threat of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), the Iraq war, political turmoil, and the unhelpful travel advisories from different countries However, tourism revenues for 2003 kept balance with 2002 revenues because of the Department of Tourismââ¬â¢s (DOT) Wealth of Wonders (WOW) Philippines the tourism promotional slogan, which kept the energy ofà tourism success steady. WOW Philippines is former Tourism Secretary Richard J. Gordonââ¬â¢s idea to encourage tourism and to motivate aà culture of tourism between Filipinos. The DOT also said that the phrase Kay Ganda! is a common Filipino phrase that exactly means So beautiful! it can be used to state appreciation for everything, beginning from people and landscapes to music, food and even manners. Pilipinas Kay Gandaâ⬠was meant to replace the old campaign slogan created by Former DOT Secretary Richard Gordon, but instead of promoting it to the foreign market it would end up working to our balikbayans or with the domestic tourists. What Is the New SAT Like Student Reactions to the Test
What Is the New SAT Like Student Reactions to the Test SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The newly redesigned 2016 SAT debuted on March 5th. If you haven't taken it yet, you may be wondering what to expect: What is the New SAT like? What did students think of the exam? Was it easier or harder than the old SAT? How did it compare to the ACT? In this article, Iââ¬â¢ll discuss the reactions to the new SAT and talk about what it means for you. How Is the New SAT Different? If youââ¬â¢re already familiar with what changes were made to the SAT, feel free to skip this section. If youââ¬â¢re completely unfamiliar with the changes, I highly recommend reading our full in-depth analysis of the changesbefore continuing this article. Iââ¬â¢ll describe the new major changes in brief. The new SAT has a 400-1600 scoring scale, instead of the 800-2400 scale. There are two sections (graded from 200-800) instead of three: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. The Essay is now optional and no longer counts towards your over 400-1600 score but instead receives its own score. There is no longer a penalty for guessing which means answering a question incorrectly or skipping the question will result in the same score. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section is composed of two parts: the Writing Test and the Reading test. Also, the Reading no longer has vocabulary sentence-completion questions and instead consists of five passages: one passage in US and World Literature, two passages in History/Social Studies, and two passages in Science. The Writing test no longer asks individual sentence questions but instead asks questions related to 4 passages. In the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section, youââ¬â¢ll need to be able to read graphs, tables, and other scientific data to answer certain questions. The Math Section is divided into two parts: non-calculator test and calculator test. There has also been a content shift: focus on algebra, decreased focus on geometry, the addition of a few trigonometry and imaginary number questions. What Is the New SAT Like? Survey Results The College Board conducted a survey of 8,089 students who sat for the March 5th new SAT.However, the College Board didn't publish the results of the entire survey. They simply chose the data they wanted to publish on their site. Therefore, Iââ¬â¢d recommend you view the findings cautiously since the College Board has a lot to gain by saying the new exam is better than the old. According to the College Boardââ¬â¢s survey, 71% of students said the new SAT reflected what theyââ¬â¢re learning in high school. By a 6 to 1 margin, students said they preferred the new SAT over the old SAT. 75% of students said the Reading Test was the same as or easier than they expected. 59% of students said the Math section tests the skills and knowledge needed for success in college and career. From the survey results, we can see that students heavily prefer the new SAT to old SAT, which makes me think this new test is a lot easier than the old test. The majority of students seem to have thought the Reading Test was easy, which aligns with the student reactions(which I'll discuss below). For the Math section, the College Board didnââ¬â¢t say how students felt about it, but rather shared that 59% of students felt the Math section tested important skills (which is not very helpful for us to know). The absence of a statistic about how students felt about the Math section makes me wonder if students thought the math was extremely difficult. If the Math section is more difficult, that would align with the student reactions (which I show below) and would be bad for the College Board since their goal in creating the new test was to create a test that more accurately reflected what students learned in school and matched up to that difficulty but did not exceed it. Kaplan also conducted a survey; however, they only surveyed 521 studentswho sat for the March 5th new SAT, so it was a much smaller sample size than that of the College Board (8,089). Like the College Board,Kaplandidn't publish the results of the entire survey. Instead, they chose the data they wanted to publish on their site.Iââ¬â¢d recommend you view the findings of this survey cautiously since Kaplanhas a lot to gain by saying the new exam is challenging to draw more students to their prep program. According to Kaplan's survey, 16%of students responded that the new SAT ââ¬Å"very muchâ⬠reflected what theyââ¬â¢re learning in high schoolwhile 56% responded ââ¬Å"somewhat,â⬠23%responded ââ¬Å"not too much,â⬠and 5% responded ââ¬Å"not at all.â⬠59% of students said thequestions were straightforward and easy to follow though 58% also said they found the length of the sections tiring. 48% of students said the test was about as difficult as they expected, 30%thought it wasmore difficult than expected, and 22% thought it wasless difficult than expected. 41% of students found the Math section more difficult than expected.56% of students said they felt comfortable doing math without a calculator. If you group the "very much" and "somewhat" responses, about 72% of students felt the test reflected what they're learning in school, which matches up with the 71% of students in the College Board survey. Otherwise, the Kaplan results vary from the College Board results because the questions students were asked in each survey was different. The results of Kaplan's survey seem pretty non-conclusive. Most of the percents are around 40-50% which means about half of students felt the opposite: 59% of students found the test straightforward, but that means 41% didn't find the test straightforward. 58% of students found the length of the sections tiring, but that means 42% didn't find the length tiring. For the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section, Kaplan didn't provide any survey results. The absence of a statistic about how students felt about this section makes me wonder if students thought thesection was relatively easy. If theEvidence-Based Reading and Writingsection is not very difficult, that would align with the student reactions (which I show below) and wouldn't be greatfor Kaplanto advertise since they want students to buy their SAT prep materials. What did the students really think? Student Reactions to the New SAT For those who took the first session of the new SAT on March 5th, how did they feel? Here are some reactions from students on Twitter andthe College Board survey: Math Section Reactions @CollegeBoard need more time on no calculator part. I'm fast at math, but not that fast. - Serena (@cheeselover012) March 5, 2016 @CollegeBoard there was not enough time for the math portion. Especially the first section!! 25 minutes is wayyyy too shortðŸËâ - Delaney Schindler (@Laney_Schindler) March 6, 2016 @CollegeBoard You can't expect me or any math wizard to finish the math sections so fast. No one in my class finished it completely! - Tyler Iacona (@tyleriacona) March 5, 2016 @CollegeBoard the no calculator portion of the math portion, as many other people have also testified to, was nearly impossible to finish. - chlà ¸e (@pointe314) March 5, 2016 @CollegeBoard absolutely no way for me to finish the no calculator section that's saying a lot seeing as I can finish the ACT math section - Sabrina (@sabrinaelena98) March 5, 2016 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section Reactions @CollegeBoard I absolutely ADORED the articles in the Reading section. There were some really scrumptious pieces - especially in science. - Lucia Stark (@LuciaStark8) March 5, 2016 ââ¬Å"I felt like I had a good amount of time to completely read through the passages and select my answers as well as review some of the ones that were difficult for me.â⬠ââ¬âElizabeth, 17, WA Overall New SAT Reactions @CollegeBoard pros: writing section was less arcanecon: it's not possible to complete that 25 min math section in 25 min - Fassih Sherazi (@fxuzzy) March 5, 2016 @CollegeBoard Pro- similar to the ACT making it easier to study strategies for both together. - Elizabeth Yousey (@YouseyElizabeth) March 5, 2016 What Does This Mean for You? Iââ¬â¢m going to base my advice here off of both student reactions and the College Board Kaplan survey results. However, my advice is more heavily swayed by the student reactions since I think their reactions are more honest and insightful than the survey results. Math Section: Practice Practice Practice Students felt the Math section was very challenging (if not impossible) to finish. Some thought it was more challenging than the ACT Math section which is notoriously hard to finish. This means you must must must drill the pacing of the SAT Math section.Take advantage of every free new SAT Math question available, and practice each one with the accurate timing. Obey the rules of the new SAT Math sections: only use your calculator on the calculator section. Many students struggled on the no calculator Math section. You need to drill your mental math.Itââ¬â¢s likely a skill you donââ¬â¢t often use since most high school math classes allow you to use your calculator.Work your mental math muscles.Practice multiplication and finding square roots without a calculator. These are two of the biggest mental math struggles for students. Make sure you know every single concept that is tested on the new SAT Math section.Review the math topics in depth.Practice thehardest SAT math questions. You don't want any confusion on test day! Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: Still Practice In general, students seemed to think the Reading and Writing tests were easier. However,we don't have any data on how students actually did yet just because the reading/writing felt easier doesn't mean it actually was.Students commented that the new SAT passages were more interesting than the often very boring old SAT reading passages. Also, students felt they had enough time to answer all questions related to the passages. While the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section may have seemed easier to students, you still need to prepare for it.Youââ¬â¢ll definitely want to get in practice tests while keeping accurate timingto make sure you'll be able to finish the sections. Personal Adornment Reflection Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Personal Adornment Reflection - Essay Example I enrolled myself into the basketball team of the school and scouting, when going out for camps were a very integral part of my life. My clothes during that phase used to be mainly guided by sport wear. Bands, racer back T-shirts and colorful shorts captivated my entire sense of dressing. I still remember that I had only one set of formal and that I used to put on when attending Sunday masses at church. Time rolled on very fast and I was in college, the mid-summer days of my life. Fun, frolic, parties and specially, late-night parties were synonymous with the word ââ¬Ëdaily routineââ¬â¢ in my life. I started keeping long hairs, indulged into alcohol occasionally and started fagging as well. Needless to mention, late night parties were all about fagging grass and boozing outwardly. Capri and tattered Texas low waist jeans with message T-shirts became the inherent part of my day wear. I started feeling very comfortable in casuals and tried my best to avoid formals. This was also a very potent reason why I was getting drifted from my community programs and family gatherings during this phase of my life. I started using strong deodorants, bandannas, ear rings, toe rings, thumb rings and also did a brow piercing. In one word, I wanted to look very cool. If really belief and customs change the personality of an individual and affect his dressing sense, then I am the most evident example in this regards. I could never understand the way the wardrobe could have affected oneââ¬â¢s life, unless it was too late and I was mixing with a circle which was funky but also infamous in the city for creating all sorts of nuisance during my early days in college. With low waist jeans on my hip and silver chains around, I actually lost the essence of the root, the dignity if my family values and the sense of pride my community has. Soon my family became the support system in my life and evolved as a savior in the most tumultuous hour of my life. A steady counseling, love an d care from my family, more and more interaction and regular attending of mass at the church of my community enabled me to understand that beauty or sense of being cool actually comes from the complete sense of persona. Wit, humor, intellect and looking neat and tidy can also make a man cool. Actually a man with a proper dressing sense at a proper place is always revered upon. Today, I aim to work with a big corporate of the nation after completing a few more days in college, and love to clad myself in formal attires. I am still a party animal but now I have learnt to maintain a proper balanced life and to attend parties and yes, of course, few of them get over late at nights. For parties as well my attires are generally three piece suits, party shirts and informal pants. Sometimes, party shirts with a sleek tie, a very good watch and different kinds of shades and aviators have replaced my funky accessories. I prefer mild perfumes rather than strong sports deodorants. Yes, I go for gym and during those times, I prefer shorts or tights along with sports T-shirts. It is very hard to comment upon the completeness of a personality. Yet, the dressing sense of a man does build his personality and makes him complete. And definitely, with the passage of time, values, customs and code of conducts imposed by society or community in

Assignment for Managerial Economics Research Paper
Assignment for Managerial Economics - Research Paper Example The generic strategy of differentiation can really assist Starbucks to meet consumer interests and to grow its business in India. Finally, it is recommendable for the company to start soft drinks business in India because this business sector has strong growth potential in the Indian market in spite of intense competition threats. 1. The business 1.1 Brief overview Starbucks Corporation is a multinational coffeehouse chain headquartered at Washington in the United States. It was founded in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Siegl. Starbucks is the worldââ¬â¢s largest coffeehouse company with 20,891 stores spread across 62 countries. The organization has a strong market presence in economically leading countries like US, UK, Canada, Japan, China, Mexico, and South Korea. It has played a significant role in developing a distinct coffee culture in many countries and this uniqueness is the main reason why the brand is still admired by millions of customers. As per CNN repor ts, the firm has a diverse product line and it mainly focuses on products such as whole-bean coffee, microground instant coffee, hot and cold beverage, pastries, snacks, and full-leaf teams. In addition, this coffeehouse company also operates an entertainment division for the purpose of marketing items like books, music, and film. The organization achieved a tremendous growth rate over the last two decades and currently the firmââ¬â¢s overseas stores constitute nearly one third of its total stores. In order to confront recessionary pressures successfully and to make its operations more productive and profitable, the Starbucks Corporation announced hundreds of store closures since 2008 in the United States. This downsizing strategy greatly assisted the company to effectively survive the recent global recession and further fuel its business growth. According to the Fortune 500 rating (as cited in CNN Money), Starbucks was ranked at number 227 in terms of largest corporations in Ame rica in 2012. While analyzing the business strategy of Starbucks, it seems that the company has been using focus and differentiation generic strategies to drive its business growth. 1.2 Rationale for the country choice Currently the Starbucks Corporation plans to enter India as part of its global business expansion because growth opportunities are rapidly emerging in this worldââ¬â¢s one of the largest markets. In order to justify this country choice, a PEST analysis is conducted. Political factors While evaluating the political spectrum of the country, political instability seems to be a great threat. Emergence of more local parties and religion-based political parties contributes to the political uncertainty of the country. However, analysts indicate that India would institute more economic reforms after the national elections scheduled in 2013-2014 (Lucintel). In addition, the government is taking immense efforts to eliminate corruption. India has a free market environment and the government extremely encourages foreign investment to deal with issues like unemployment. Hence, legal barriers would not disturb the market entry of Starbucks. Economic factors India has achieved a steady GDP growth rate of 8% over the last five years (Lucintel). Economists predict that the Indian economy is expected to maintain its growth rate over

Spartiate King Essay Example for Free
Spartiate King Essay Demaratus, a Spartiate King, was deposed by the Ephors after questions about his heritage had been raised; since the Kingship was hereditary and also primogenitive meaning that the position of King was passed on to the oldest son and not the most talented or popular. One of the Ephors acted as the Eponymous Ephor, from the 5th Century BC onwards, meaning that this particular Ephors name was used as a dating system for Sparta; which made it quite reliable due to the fact that each Eponymous Ephor was only elected once in their entire lifetime. In addition to this, the Ephors were able to discipline and fine any citizens for breaches in the laws of Sparta on the spot which differs greatly to the power displayed by other aspects of the Spartiate Constitution such as the Gerousia or the Kings. However, one problem with this aspect of the power of the position of Ephor, was the fact that an individual only held the position of power for a year, after which they would return to normal citizenship; thus putting them on par with those whom theyd previous fined and disciplined. As a result of this eventuality, its doubtful that the Ephors used their position as effectively as they could have since they knew of a backlash which would occur once they stepped down from the position. Also, the Ephors received foreign ambassadors from other Greek Poleis instead of the Kings or the Gerousia thus suggesting that they were the portion of the Constitution that interacted with other Poleis instead of the Kings; a role which would place them higher than the Kings since itd be their behaviour and interactions which the ambassadors would base their decisions upon and not that of the Kings. Traditionally, in societies wherein a Monarchy exists, it the reigning Monarch who interacts with ambassadors from other nations and countries however, since Spartas Constitution doesnt permit the Monarch the level of power it once had, its only reasonable to assume that such a role would fall to others. The Gerousia, comprising of the 28 elders all of whom were over sixty and retired from military service and the two Kings, was the Supreme Court of Sparta; they had the final say over any legal decisions proposed, based on whether or not the Assembly agreed with the proposed decision. The members of the Gerousia were elected to a life-long position, though naturally they were only eligible for election if they were over sixty; which incidentally was the age that all adult, male Spartiates retired from the military at. Once elected, each individual, was unable to be unelected and the only way they could be replaced was through their death. Unlike the Ephors therefore, the members of the Gerousia had the power of their positions to assist them in building referent power with the citizens of Sparta and other members of the Gerousia; thus their appointment to the Gerousia enabled additional types of power to develop and assist them with their agendas. However, for all the power the Gerousia had in relation to legal decision, they couldnt progress very far without the compliance of the Assembly; which would vote yes or no on a proposal from the Gerousia. If the Assembly didnt agree with the Gerousia about a proposed decision then the Gerousia had to revise the proposition and then offer it to the Assembly again. This would mean that the decisions of the Gerousia took a long time to carry out since; first of all, the Gerousia had to decide amongst themselves which proposal was best, then propose it to the Assembly and, if the Assembly didnt agree, theyd have to go back and revise it again thus meaning that to implement a simple change or improvement to a pre-existing law of Sparta could take weeks or even months at a time. This then wasnt efficient and quite cumbersome of the Constitution. The Assembly itself, as aforementioned, had the power to block any laws proposed by the Gerousia but, they couldnt speak out against the proposals; instead only being able to say yes or no to the proposal and not offer an improvement or possible change to it. In addition to this power to veto any proposal from the Gerousia, the Assembly had the Positional Power which enabled them to decide on whether or not Sparta would engage on a military campaign since, afterall, the members of the Assembly were actually soldiers who served in the army and thus would be the ones engaging in battle. Also, as an additional bonus to this, the Assembly had the power to chose which of the two Kings would lead them on the military campaign. Now, this type of decision was based on a number of things; most likely on the militaristic competence of the chosen King but, quite possibly, also the charisma of the King. As it was, the chosen King would, in effect, become the General of the Army and also the strategist for the campaign making his decisions final; though an Ephor would accompany the King on campaign to make sure he maintained the Code of Sparta whilst on campaign. In conclusion to this, I would surmise that it was the Position of Ephor which garnered the most power since the Ephors had the ability and means to control the Kings; insofar as having the power to summon, depose and even censure the King. In addition to this immense power over the Kings, the Ephors also had the power of their position to discipline and fine Spartiate citizens in much the same way a member of law enforcement does today. This then creates a diverse and dynamic position of power which enabled the Ephors to control the Kings themselves but also everyday individuals in order to maintain the Code of Sparta. Unlike the Gerousia which depended on the Assemblys agreement on proposals, and the Kings who depended on the Assembly on which King would undertake a military campaign, the Ephors were required to answer to no-one except the laws of Sparta itself.

Online Communication among Youth Essay -- Facebook Instant Messaging I
Technology has provided people with the means to do things that would other wise be impossible. However, while technology has provided the ability to communicate with people halfway across the world, some believe it has limited the interaction with those who are closest. Yahoo, MSN and AOL are not only top e-mail providers but also offer 'real time' messaging, or instant messaging. Instant messaging has far replaced e-mail as a form of communicating, especially among youth. According to a 2005 study done by Pew Internet and the American Life Project on the social impact of the Internet, 59 percent of individuals under the age of 30 were more likely to instant message. This was in contrast to those over 30, who used instant messaging at a rate of 33 percent. College students and younger have grown up in the era of Facebook. Facebook is an online social network that allows you to communicate with friends, meet people you do not know and now it offers a new instant messaging system. This new system is called Facebook Chat. It allows you to see wh...

Importance Of Law In To Kill a Mocking Bird Essay
Lawââ¬â¢s are made for many different reasons, they are made to keep society in place, they are made to give justice to everyone, they are made to give equality to all, they are made to stop intolerable acts, and they are made to uphold our strict justice system. When it comes to practicing law I believe that no exceptions may be made in any circumstances because a rule is a rule. With one exception being made many people would be at a disadvantage, creating an unfair justice system. Pretend you are a driving your child to their doctorââ¬â¢s appointment, when you realize that you may be late you begin to speed. Eventually you are going 50 miles per hour on a 35 miles per hour road and you run a red light. The police eventually pull you over, and you explain to them your delema. Instead of being understanding and thoughtful of your situation the police officer charges you with both a ticket for speeding and running a red light. Acording to the law this is the right thing to do but according to Atticus, in To Kill A Mokingbird, the policie officer should have accepted your reasoning and allowed you to go free of charge because ââ¬Å"sometimes it is better to bend the law a little in special cases.â⬠(30) I disagree with Atticus because stretching the law in minor casing may seem understandable but laws are made for certain reasonââ¬â¢s and when there is an exception made for one person there should be an exception made for any person who breaks the law. Much like in chapter 3 of To Kill A Mockingbird. The Ewell family is a family of much lower social ranking and class that the Cunninhamââ¬â¢s. Burris Ewell proves this to be true when he arrives to school with worms attactched to his body and lice in his head, and no shoes on (further explain)

Discrimination Of Tattoos And Piercings - 896 Words
Brendan Morgaridge Goodwin: ERWC November 10, 2014 Discrimination Of Tattoos And Piercings In The Workplace This world is full of discrimination and profiling. Whether you are a different race, practice a different religion, weigh anything other than average, or modify yourself to look the way you want yourself to, you are bound to be discriminated against. All of these things affect your eligibility to work whether you know it or not. America judges people on their appearance rather than their ability to work. Most of these things, although uncontrollable, have a very high influence on employers and should not be tolerated to the slightest extent. Discrimination of tattoos and piercings in the workplace are a growing problem in America. Millions of people never have the opportunity to be hired at their dream job because of the ink underneath their skin, or because of the few extra piercings they may have. Everyone should be given an equivalent chance to achieve their dream career and make a living doing what they love to do. Dr. Matt Taylor, age 41, has a PhD in space physics and is a bri lliant scientist. What does he have anything to do with this topic someone might ask? The manââ¬â¢s arms are covered with tattoos.
